Today's Tarot Card: Eight of Cups
In the Rider Waite version of this card, you see eight cups stacked up in the foreground, with an individual in the background, appearing to walk away. In the night sky you can see both a full and crescent moon hanging overhead, with rocky mountains off in the distance. The ground looks mossy green, with a craggy stream running along side, while the land near the cups appear to be light colored dirt or sand. While the moon represents the unknown and the water (stream) is connected to the emotions, the cups represent that which the individual knows, that which he once held dear, thing
s or ideas that he once felt were his own and could be depended on. However we now see this person with their back turned to these cups, and moving away from them. Maybe it is due to betrayal, or loss, or because they have just reached their limit and said "enough".... whatever the reason, this card signifies that there is a time and place for everything, and for everything its place. Sometimes it is better to cut your losses than to continue on with something that is no longer of any use to you. Usually when these things occur, when these decisions are made, they are not made quickly or lightly, and usually happen over a period of time and only after all other options have been exhausted. While it may seem like all is lost, the thing is you may feel a great wave of relief come over you because not only have you made the decision to move on, you have also allowed the way for the old to be cleared and give way for the new. Keep in mind that the number eight is associated with balance, personal power, inner strength and wisdom, and with this card you can clearly recognize that with the turning away of the old and useless and outdated comes a clearer understanding of who and what you are and how you believe and perceive. And while you may go through a sort of 'grieving process' for that which you leave behind, accept that it's only natural. Allow yourself to go through the cycle, as it is a step in your growth, and then be prepared for a new stage in your life to commence.
