Today's Tarot Card: Death

There is an old adage that says there is nothing certain about life except death and taxes. Death is a necessity because without it, we are not able to experience - and appreciate - life. Life arises out of the death of something - such is the cycle of life. Death is not something that should be feared, it is something that should be understood and - when the time comes - accepted and even in some instances, embraced.

When Death appears in a reading, it very rarely represents an actual, physical death. On the contrary, Death typically signifies the ending of the old to make way for the new. Whether it be a dead-end job, a relationship that has grown old and stale, the ending of a business, or ideas that no longer call to the soul, whatever it may be, the Death card entreats us to review our existence and remove those things that are out-dated, out-grown or just no longer fits with what we currently believe. And while yes, there might be some sorrow and a a bit of trepidation about giving up what is comfortable and familiar, there is also a feeling of exhileration over the prospects of what might possibly occur in our future because when we clear away the deadwood from our lives, we create room for new, exciting opportunities to take place in our lives.
