Today's Tarot Card: Nine of Wands

I am sure we have all had those times when we have worked on a project for a long time, have given it all that we had, every ounce of energy was used to bring our ideas, our desires, our goals to fruition. We have done all that we can and now are just waiting for the final step - the outcome. This is what the Nine of Wands represents - that moment when we are on the precipice between all the work we have done, and finally crossing that finish point. Because we have put so much of ourselves in to our work, we sometimes may appear to be very defensive of it, of "our baby". Like the parent who watches their grown child move out of the house to start life on their own, it is ok to relax a bit and to allow "the baby" to continue on, content in the faith that we have done all that we can.

However there is an additional, albeit different, interpretation of the Nine of Wands. In the card from the Rider Waite deck, we view a man who is facing 9 upright wands. He looks as if he has been though battle, he appears tired, and just isn't sure if he can take another moment. He seems to forget that he has the ability within himself, and within his own hands, to move beyond these obstacles to the "finish line" ahead by using his inner spark, his drive, his passions. Only he can decide if he has the will and the drive to move on, or to allow these stumbling blocks to hold him back. In a way, this ties in with the analysis in the first paragraph, especially if the reason we have not met our goals is due to our own fears, our own insecurities, our own doubts. If we dig deep down and find the confidence and belief in ourselves and in our work, then we, like the man in the card, can proceed through the things that hinder us to our destination, ahead. If these hinderances are detrimental to our growth, maybe it is time to re-evaluate our lives and our thought processes and let go of those that no longer serve any purpose or value in our lives.

When this card shows up in a reading, it is letting you know that you are so close to the prize, to not give up, to allow just a little more time for your plans to come to fruition, that it hasn't been for naught. Like the battle weary warrior who looks towards home, you will soon understand the feeling of accomplishment of a job well done.
