Today's Tarot Card: The Chariot
In the Rider-Waite version for this card, we see a blond man commanding authority over the chariot he rides. In front of him are two (2) sphinxes - one black, the other, white - which represent the opposites in life (positive/negative, good/bad, etc) that one must wield authority over if one desires to achieve great things. He wears a star in his crown, and stars are depicted on the tapestry and curtain that hang off the chariot, behind him. The stars represent the celestial realm, that which connects us to the spirtual or esoteric aspects within ourselves which help us to strive for better things for both ourselves and others. The Chariot card is the 7th card of the Major Arcana. In numerology, the number 7 is connected to the energies that one needs when dedicating to a specific goal or desire. It also deals with the stimulation of imagination to bring about results in our lives through the practice of using conscious thought and awareness, which are other positive traits to possess when trying to reach a hard-worked aspiration. It is through the mastery of the contrasts that show up in our life, as well as our life experiences, and due to the growth process that those events bring about, a greater awareness about ourselves emerge. This realization can bring about better insight, compassion, confidence and independence, which also gives us a better footing to go after those dreams and meet the challenges head on.
The Chariot card is about movement, especially towards our intended, desired goals. It is a suggestion to keep mindful of the path that we are on when trying to meet our objectives. It is a card that tells us that, through adversity, we can achieve victory, so just keep true to yourself and to your goal.
Because the chariot is considered a vehicle of sorts, as a mode of getting from "point A to point B", it's appearance in a reading can sometimes represent methods/modes of transit, so if it should come up for you, it may be letting you know that you need to tend to certain issues in regards to whatever form of transportation you are currently using. For example, if it is a car, you might need to have some engine work done. If you use public transportation, check for delays or changes with the routes, or even change with the price of the fare. If you use a taxi or other forms of coach service, check for possible problems, changes or delays surrounding your usual commute. Additionally, because of its connection to movement and transportation, The Chariot card can, in some cases, be connected to travel.
