Today's Tarot Card: The High Priestess

"Premonitions, presentiments, the sensing of unseen presences and many allied experiences are due to the activity of the astral body and its reaction on the physical; their ever-increasing frequency is merely the result of its evolution among educated people."

-Annie Besant

In the Major Arcana card that is the High Priestess, we encounter a woman sitting in front of a wall that is covered with pomegranates, with two pillars to her side, and crescent moon at her feet. In her hand rests a scroll with the letters TORA inscribed on it, and on her head rests a crown adorned with a solar disc and horns, similar to the crowns worn by Isis and Hathor, both from the Egyptian pantheon. When we come upon her, we are surrounded by the energy that emanates from her. She is the teacher and guardianess of all things unknown on the spiritual level. The pillars on her side represent both the feminine and masculine aspects of the Divine, with the letters B and J corresponding to Boaz and Jakin, respectively, which were the names on the two pillars at the Temple of Solomon, which was purported to house the Ark of the Covenant. The crescent represents the connection that the High Priestess has with the moon, which is also connected to the Feminine Divine, and to the intuitive process. Pomegranates are associated with the Goddess Persephone, and to the underworld, and to the secrets of the unknown and the unseen.

When the High Priestess arrives in a reading, we are reminded of the importance of listening to that 'little voice in our head', that which guides us when we sometimes have no real reason or understanding as to what or why. If you have not been heeding the widsom of your intuitive side, the High Priestess tries to gently remind us that it is important not to shut out that part of ourselves. It may be a time in your life where you need to look inward and possibly question your beliefs, your way of life, re-examine things that you may no longer feel that connect to your heart and soul. Where the Magician is our teacher for the material world, the High Priestess is our teacher for the spiritual and astral world. She is ready to impart her wisdom about the Mysteries - if you are ready to take them in to your soul and learn, and are ready to be transformed.
